hello could some one send me a diagram or tell me what needs to be hooked up to the voltage regulator and how. just got this car and not one wire is going to the voltage regulator.

did you think they may have replaced the original alternator with one that has a built in regulator? Can you start the car?

yes i can start the car. how can i tell if there is a built in regulator in the alternator

thanks for the info on the alternator with built in voltage regulator. i have since then discovered that i do in fact have an alternator with built in voltage reg. i used a voltage tester to see if the battery was in fact being charged when car is running. looked at the diagram you directed me to. but looks like mine is wired alittle different from that.

now i need to fix leaking oil pan. do you know if i could replace the gasket on the oil pan with out jacking up the motor. and would the rear main seal be able to be replaced while i have the oil pan down. thanks again for all your help

I recommend picking up a manual for your car but based on memory, Pontiacs of that era need to have the engine jacked up to change the pan gasket. There are some techniques that you could try for the rear main, I recommend you try a google search. I believe it is a 2 piece main so you have to push the upper half around to remove it and install new one.
