I have purchased an old 68 laurentian to restore. Engine runs like a charm but I want to find out more information about the car. It hasn't been registered for many years but the person who sold it to me claims it's a 307 5L V8. I've been looking on wikipedia and there isn't much info about laurentians anywhere. I see that they are close to the catalinas but the catalinas engine sizes only started from 389 6.4L. I was thinking this car is a 3 speed THM 400? Anyone care to fill me in?

In the USA Catalinas in 1968 started with a 400 CID engine. Pontiac never had a 307, that sounds like a Chevrolet engine. If the distributor is mounted on to the intake manifold you have a Chevy, Pontiacs mount the distributor directly to the block. On the front of the passenger side cylinder head there should be a pad on the engine block with a code like YB or CYK, etc. Try to provide that code.
Yeah, the distributor is mounted on the intake. So that means it's a oldsmobile V8 engine? And it is a 307 5.0L. Well atleast I know what it is now. I think it has this engine because it is a NZ new car. A few were made in NZ by GM from SKD kits (Don't know what that is?)
Says here on wiki with the oldsmobile V8 engines that they were used in pontiacs but weren't used until 1980. But this is a 68 car and hasn't had a engine change.

Right hand drive! The engine configuration in the picture was last used in the USA in 1967. It has the oil filler tube on the front of the intake and in 1968 they switched to the valve covers. Why do you think it's a 307 as opposed to being a 327 or 350?

Yeah, right hand drive because we drive on left side of the road in NZ. And it is a NZ new. That's why its put together differently.
It was originally registered as a 5.0L.
