My new to me 1968 LeMans has a ST-300 two speed automatic transmission. Having some problems with determining replacement amount for fluid changeout for in car as owners manual shows 4 pints (yep pints) and the big Pontiac repair book does not give an amount. We removed 7.5 quarts but transmission was not working properly... slipping big time and no reverse up hill.. We also thought that the dip stick may not be correct but have been unable to find any info on it anywhere as it has a part number 1383413 stamped on the stick. Can anyone give any advise on either one of these issues? Much thanks in advance!

Googling that part seems to indicate it's correct for a ST300. Did you check the fluid level before draining to see if it was overfilled?
ST300 seems to take 2 to 3 quarts with only a pan drop.
Use two quarts, let it warm up and check fluid level running in drive. Add as necessary.

we did not check prior to draining but did only add two quarts when it was back together and the car would not move foward or backwards so we added another quart little movement adding another allowed proper movement. it was driven around 10 min. and then checked level it does
show still low about pint still testing...thanks for info we googled also and could not find any info.
