1969 Firebird Problems....help?

Well my Firebird has an idle problem. When I first start the car it idles at .7 RPMS and thats fine but as it warms up the idle progressively goes up to 2.0 rpms then the car starts to get really hot....it doesnt kick down at all! Does anyone know whats up? It has a Holley double pump carb and it a pontiac 455 engine.

Well, what it sounds like is that your carburator isn't mixing the correct amount of fuel and air mixture in the proper range so you do have a problem.... you can go to this website and it will tell you how to adjust the mixture:

Check the fast idle cam on the choke mechanism. It's also a little unclear when you say .7 RPMS, do you mean 700? I assume 2.0 means 2000? The car should go to 1,500 to 2,000 from a completely cold start. The idle when warm should be in the range of 700 to 800.

Claires advise to go to a India website reafirms my believe that not everything can be outsourced successfully. The author of the website article appears to have never seen a Holley carburetor in their life. The idle mixture screws on a DP Holley are on each side of the main metering block not the front as the article suggests. The idle adjustment screw is not on the same side as the fast idle cam, the cam is on the right side of the car the screw is on the left side. All in all the article is not a good resource. Going to the Holley web site, www.holley.com, will give you the correct information.
