Trying to find replacement front seat belts for 1970 firebird. I believe they are the same for 1970 and 1971 only. Can only find reproduction of the 1973 design belts. I want original look and do not want to convert to 3 pt. Any suggestions? Also if anyone has suggestions for which rear seatbelts I need that would be great too.

Hi Mclobes, do you know which are the original seat belts for the 71 formula 400? I am not able to find this information. 2 points, three points, retractable?

Thanks

On a 71 Firebird the lap belt outer section retracted, the inner did not. The shoulder harness when not used clipped to the headliner and had a second inner connection similar to the lap belt.

Dear melsg5, I have made my "home work" about this topic and I am a bit confused with your answer; According the 1971 Fisher Body Service Manual, page 14-80, about the outer retractable seat belts a note says: "FRONT SEATS - ALL EXCEPT NOVA, CAMARO AND FIREBIRD". Sorry I dont know how to attach a screeN shot.

Maybe retractable was non standard for firebird but optional?

I would like to restore my car the more original the best

Thanks for share your kowledge

Thanks for your reply melsg5, but that car is from 1970 (look the headrest separated fron the seat...). Sure were retractable on 70 model but maybe not in 71...

What year car are you inquiring about? Your post clearly stated 1970.

seat belts

Did you ever get your belt issues resolved? 70 and 71 are similiar but distinctively different. Lap belt retractors are different for each year and shoulder harnesses are independant of lap belts. Also 70/71 use different width of buckles. Rear belts mimic fronts in style but no retractors. Standard belts have belt colored recievers and deluxe belts have chrome recievers.

Thanks Mlewisariz; Are you sure 71 firebird has front retractors? according 1971 Fisher Body Service Manual Camaro, Firebird and Nova standard has a simple belt without retractor and just the Nova Deluxe has retractor...

I had a 71 (early VanNuys) which had retractors similar to my 70. A friend had a 71 with belts like pics in the Florida example. Possibly my belts had been changed. I will check dates of what I have in my car,and spares, today and get back this evening.

I have seen many pictures like that of the interior where there is no retractor for a 71.

Looked at my belts today.I have 1 set each of 70 deluxe and standard and 1 set of 71 std rear belts. The blades are all 2&1/8" wide. Deluxe blades have 9/16 square holes and standard have 5/8 X 1&1/8 holes. Std blades will work in deluxe receiver, but deluxe blades will only work in deluxe receivers.Std buckle covers are all the same. The 70's have retractors and the 71 I had did also, but may have been changed. Evidently 70 retractors would bolt into a 71.
