1971 350 Lemans

On a 350 with a maximum RPM of 5,500 somethng around 600 to 650 would be the correct size with small heads. What are the specs on the cam?

Cam specs:
.424/.444 lift
278/288 duration
Duration @ .050 204/214
Lobe seperation 112LC

Pretty mild cam.

Yes, mild cam, would not go larger than 650 on the carb and a vacuum secondary.

No experience with the carb you suggest, but I highly recommend a Quadrajet 4 barrel for the engine/cam selection you are using. Most of the Q-jets are 800 CFM, but will only flow what the engine needs. In your case, probably somewhere around 650 CFM @ 5500 RPM.

I have a quadrajet on my 350 with a Summitracing 2800 cam, same specs as Spectrumad's cam. The carb was hard to tune, but I couldn't be happier with it. I got everything I needed for it from http://cliffshighperformance.com/ and you can join the tech forum there too or email Cliff for help tuning it.

Icefan71,
How are you liking the cam? I am wondering if I will be happy with it. I am not looking for anything wild, just a step above stock. I hope to have the short block back before monday so I can start assembly.

I have a Qjet that has too many stripped threads to bother with and figured I would try out the Quick Fuel. If I am not happy with it, I will be going back to the Qjet.

The cam isn't wild at all. It idles nice and smooth with plenty of vacuum.
I have 2 quadrajets. The 1st one was given to me for free. The second one I bought from craigslist for $30. I spent about $150 rebuilding the 1st one for my engine. You can get them pretty cheap, rebuild them for your needs and you don't have to spend a whole lot of $$ and many hotrodders say you can't beat the overall performance and fuel economy of a well built quadrajet.

what exhaust system is on the car?

Sounds good and looks like a fun project. I am using 4 tube headers with 2.5" duals all the way back. No cross-pipe and quiet ol' turbo mufflers. Still waiting for the call that the short block is ready....... Nope. Still no call. Damn dirt track racers beat me to the machine shop!

Started assembly. Ice, I am curious. Did u degree your cam? And how did u end up with your timing and are you pleased with it? I hope to degree mine this week and the rest of the assembly should go pretty smooth. Was surprised to find out that none of the regular parts stores can get head bolts. Had to order them online. Convertible weather is here so I had better get going on it!

No I didn't degree mine, but if you have the tools, you should. My timing is at 16 initial, 36 total.

the main number you are trying for is the 36 total at about about 2,800 to 3,000 RPM with vacuum to the distributor disconnected while setting the timing
