Dilsterboy, if you want to spruce up your engine as-is, without the expense of rebuilding to high performance specs, you might consider replacing the two barrel carb with a Carter AFB. It flows around 625 cfm, it has a reputation of being a simple and very reliable carb with good street performance. You can get a sharp looking, high flow air filter for it. Mate that up with a nice, mild and torqy intake and a clean set of tuned headers - dual exhaust and you'll see and feel the performance difference.
And, if you can keep your foot from mashing the accelerator every time you start out, you will probably see better fuel mileage as well. The primaries on the Carter are smaller than the two barrel you have now. The secondaries are the ones that push you back into the seat off the stop sign.
