so after putting my motor back together, I noticed that my TH350 is soft shifting really bad. It used to chirp the tires nicely. Still shifts pretty hard when I drop it into 1 or 2. But when it is in D it almost feels like it drops into second from first. I had to add some transmission fluid when I changed the speedo gear. The guy I bought the car from told me that it had a new filter and a shift kit. I tried adjusting the modulator valve in, and I even tried replacing the mod valve. Also took a vacuum hand pump to the vac line to check for leaks, and it holds pressure. I am using DEX/MERC, could that be an issue?

did you correctly adjust the throttle kickdown mechanism? why do you think the trani is the cause when you did engine work not trani work, your engine couldnt be down in power?

That's whats wierd about this car. The first time I drove the car after I put it all back together it had power, and the tires chirped. I've heard all kinds of different ways to adjust the kickdown cable. I attached the cable to the throttle cable bracket I installed, and then the kickdown to the carb linkage. Went to wide open throttle by hand with linkage attached to set full cable extension.

did you release the lock and then reengage it when the throttle was at wide open? Also have someone sit in the car and push the throttle down all the way, sometimes stuff like floor mats get in the way and even though your foot is all the way down the throttle is not wide open.
