1975 firebird transmission options

My car has the traditional TH350 transmission and during the rebuild some have suggested changing to a four speed automatic. the first thing i have found is the GM TH700-r4/4L60 any other suggestions and is there any installation problems to be aware of with the TH700 and the 400 engine. thanx

you will need an adapter and the other popular trani is the 200R4

You will need a tv cable setup. Also a vacuum or manual switch to lock the converter.

I put in a 200-4r. They are stronger (if built correctly) than a 700. I bought one from TCI and have a mild 400 engine. It grenaded after a year and they wouldn't cover it. They wound up giving me some money back, but nowhere near what I paid. Find someone who specializes only in this transmission. I found a local high performance shop, and it took them a lot of time to get this sorted out, but they did.

The 200 is the small car tranny. The 700 is the big car tranny, and has a lower first gear.
