Hello all Very new to this. I have a unrestored 10th Anniversary TA that I am contemplating restoring. Originality is very important to me, but I am thinking of finding a donor car and combining the two but my question is :

How are these cars serialized or VIN marked? Is the engine serial number marked onto the frame, tranny and rear or visa versa? Is the cars VIN number located on any major components, like the engine, tranny or rear? (I know old Vettes have the Vin on the engine VIN and various other parts). I believe it shows up in a few places on the frame but were else?

Not sure if GM continued this matching VIN numbers with a 1979 TA? So can you transfer engine, tranny etc to another 10th Anniversary TA and it still be number correct car???

Again, this is all new to me. Trying to do some homework before I get in to deep!!!! Thanks greatly appreciated!!!! Ike

no you cannot transfer major components, engine/transmission and still have matching numbers.

Melsg5 thanks greatly for the reply. Do you mind clarifying what is and is not Serialized or Vinned? Thanks Ike

The engine, transmission and Body shell are the only parts with the VIN number stamped on them (a car with a frame would also have it stamped on the frame) All other parts will just have a date code, you would like the date codes to be within a couple of months of the cars assembly date, but only before the assembly date not after it.
