Need help finding a part
i have a 1979 trans am with 4 wheel disk breake‘s I want to A- find some place to rebuild my unit ( booster & master cylinde)
or 2- find a replacement unit and where do I find them?
my unit is 9.12” on the booster size
pleas if any one can help thanx

Why do you want to do anything to the booster, what makes you think it has an issue?
Do you have a very hard pedal when the engine is running?
NAPA has masters

Thanx
I have a soft pedal, I’am in the process of replacing the fuel lines and gas lines, & full suspension- due to age and safety reasons.
i was thinking that at this time a new break booster and master cylinder would be the time to do
& I have found that no place has this booster I called Napa, auto zone, pep boys, adVance auto every major parts store only yo find out there listed on there sites but when you call to check they find out that they can not get them from there Supplyer, I even called there Supplyer my self and was told that this part is discontinued?

belive me I have been all over the internet looking,

lots of places say they have it but when checked cant get them.
now I am not sure it is bad I have a sort pedal and the car does stop though it wouldn’t lock up the breakers at all, I would like it working better,
i have owned the car for 37 yrs now looks great paint body etc just needs interior Redone and gas lines breake look really bad one part of the breake lines let go in the past so the rest can not be far.

How do I know-if it is going bad?the Booster, Master cylinder in the first place?
I will leave it if know it not bad.

thanx for any help

The booster will cause a very hard pedal similar to with the engine off and you pump the brakes till no more vacuum. The master would be suspect if you have a soft pedal, no leaks anywhere, have replaced all the rubber brake hoses and have bled all air out of the system and still cannt get a good pedal. Typically it would go to the floor.
Ames Performance lists a master.

Thank you
looks like I will just replace the master cylinde, then install all new lines, replace the rubber hoses then bled the system.
that is a relive knowing that it is not the booster ( Im Posible to find the booster for a four wheel disk car it seems)
it will be easy todo the rest of the job.
i also plan on up dating the HEI by installing new weights new springs a higher volt coil on top & of course new cap& rotor wires plugs and vacuum Module and all else within that stock set up.
she has been in there from new.

Buy the way has any one ever hear of a police car trans am.?
we believe that the one I have is one, I picked up the car back in 1984 with less then 45k miles, it’s SE black and gold we car WS6 auto —it was like new at the time. But after I got it found out that it had some really good mods performed— looking very factory in look 1- it came with a 140 mph speedo, 2- came with a four core radiator 3- has an engine block oil cooler,4- real dual exhaust system one pipe from each manifold 5- no emissions whatsoever,— now I was at a show in the late 80’s in the field and pair of older guys took notice of The car and the fact it has and engine block oil cooler & also the radiator was lager the stock, all still use it a stock fan shroud then seen the 140 speedo, then pointed out a few other items, asked questions on other items not seen was right on the money on each one.
told me that they were in Georga in the late 70’s and know in fact that there were a few police dept’s that would use these cars only making a few mods mostly because of potential overheating and long running hours between shifts as plan Jame chase cars, as they told me then these car were the best in breaking & Handling that you could buy at the time and made real good runners, it came with a lot of extra wiring under the dash and a few well place switch holes, they pointed out that there should be a type of small hole in the center dash speaker for some type of lights to me, and looked over to see and yes there were just as they said it should be.She also has a duel gate shifter utilizing the factory stock appearing center consul and shifter apparatus Plate.
i for one can say for sure that this car is quick and very fast, I was very young at the time and wanted to see its full potential only to find out that it did hold up to what these two old guys told me it’s possible to do will not be doing that anytime soon the 80s were a different time and I’m a lot older and not quite The risk taker I was back in the day.

Check if www.phs-online.com can provide the original invoice and other documents.
Hi: yes I did do just that way back Many years ago. It was sold on main st in Montreal Canada made in the states on the east Coast plant.the man I bought the car from was from Canada & said that he bought it from were he worked, because as my memory remembers that he used the car and liked it a lot & was able to buy it.never said what he did and I got the impression he did not want to talk about it ( now at the time I was a very young man who like a lot of other young boys wanted a car like this) it took me over three months trying to buy the car from him, I just liked what it was. He would not sell it to me though he would spend time talking to me about it, & said things like in past he seen things he would like not to think about again and that selling a call like this to a young person he found does not always end well. Well I guess my persistence and decent manners & knowledge about the the car as he said convinced him that I was not the type of person he would worry about owning a car like this and that I would not do something foolish with it, & then told me well maybe it’s time for a new car after all & changed his mind & put a nice price on it that was within my grasp at the time I did not think of what he may of done for work in the past only that I wanted that car, looking back it did seem strange because as I remember when speaking with him he was always polite always looked me straight in the eyes standing very straight & never said much that he was a very tall well built person with what now I think of as a police / military style haircut in appearance and mannerisms.who knows? I remember saying after I bought the car that I will have it a long time & enjoy it not change it, his response was I have no doubt enjoy it as I have.
well now over 36 years later even I can’t believe I still have it, I have always like the car the looks the way it handles its performance, even in relation to the other cars I presently own 70 judge and 87 grand national that bought brand new, though there is one car I have that in some ways is a lot of fun to drive like the t/a is my turbo 91 MR2.

Glad to hear you are holding onto the car for so long. I have my fathers GTO from 1971 and a 1969 Corvette I bought in 1973.
