Hi guys,

I just won an auction for a 79 Trans Am. I am really excited to pick it up. One thing I did notice is that the car doesn't seem to have an A/C components. I know that they are often removed from the car.

But can the car potentially not have come with the A/C option?

Either way, I was interested to know how big of a job it would be to put A/C into the car. Is it possible?

Thanks.

since you are not sure if just the compressor was removed it is difficult to answer your question. If it's just the compresser it's not a big job. If someone removed everthing it's much more involved. Maybe you should determine more precisely what the situation is.

Looks to me the compressor was removed. So was the fiberglass box with the evaporator.

Looks to me like all of it.
I mean if I could get all the parts, is it that hard?

finding the parts may be difficult but there are companies that make aftermarket kits, something like "classic ac's".

Yea so far I've been online and I've found full compressor assemblies.
I even found the fiberglass box. The blower motor, evaporator, hoses. All of it. It was all pretty easy to find.

My main concern is whether or not there is something I'm missing and it's just plain old not possible to put A/C in the car.

It probably came with it, look at the dash control it should say A/C. You found the condensor in front of radiator? Sounds like there should not be any problem other than cost.

I actually haven't picked up the car yet. But here is a pic of what I can see from the dash so far.

The controls look like non ac.

yea, I think the car is non A/C too.

Anyone know how hard it would be to install A/C in a non factory A/C car?
