just bought a 1980 firebird for cheap. its a real sharp looking car but theres a few problems, the v6 motor mostly. im hoping to swap it out soon for a new motor, but as you guys may already know those old pontiac motors and starting to become really hard to come by so i was hoping to do a small block chevy swap. anyone know if a sbc motor will bolt up to the turbo 350 tranny thats stock in the car? or would i need to look for a new transmission to go with the engine

I know people having more luck finding a pontiac or olds and placing them in rather than having to deal with changing everything over to chevy. The tranny will not work because chevy has its own pattern where as pontiac had a BOP (Buick, olds, pontiac) pattern that interchanges. I found myself a 400 pontiac to put in.

Just an fyi, they make an adapter plate to bolt a chevy small block to a bop tranny.
