Hello all! I am new to this forum and recently purchased a 1980 Trans Am Turbo. The car is in generally good condition for its age but, does of course have some issues to be corrected. One is that the parking brake has been disconnected. Likely due to a terrible aftermarket exhaust system a previous owner installed (problem for another day). Forgetting this I accidently depressed the parking brake pedal and now I cannot get it to release. It is not an issue for drivability as the brake is not connected but, having the dash light on all the time is annoying. Does anyone know how I can release the pedal? Thank you ahead of time for your help!

Did you try stepping on the pedal a second time or there is no release handle on the dash?
You dont have a copy of the owners manual?

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I have tired pressing the pedal several times. There is a brake release lever on the dash but, when I pull it the pedal does not release. It did when the parking brake was connected but, does not now. I have the manual but, again it does not address this issue.

then you will have to look under the dash to see why the cable attached to the release handle isnt releasing the parking brake mechanism.

What usually happens to F-body parking brakes is the intermediate cable either sticks or rusts were it passes thru the floorboard just below the parking brake pedal. I have had to disconnect the cable from the pedal assembly to get the pedal to return to the up position.
