My 1984 Fiero won't start unless I pour gas into the throttle body. Once in a while it will start without doing this, but most of the time I need to. The few times it starts without pouring gas into it, I can hear the fuel pump turn on for a few seconds. Once it has started, it runs fine and I can hear the fuel pump running. Any ideas on what to check?

Either its the oil pressure switch, or fuel pressure regulator or the relay for the fuel pump.

The regulator may not be holding pressure in the line so it takes a while to get fuel to the throttle body.

Check the vacumn hose to the regulator to see if its wet, if it is ,change the regulator.

The oil pressure switch sends power to the fuel pump relay when the engine get enough oil pressure while cranking. If it doesnt, the relay wont turn on the pump.

If these check out fine, then look into changing the the injector or get it cleaned.

What he said above , If it were me I would put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail turn key on check the reading then crank and check the reading...if all is within specs I would check the oil pressure next.
