1984 pontaic fiero 4cyl engine swap

i have a 1984 pontiac fiero 2.5 automatic that i am wanting to daily drive. it has a blown head gasket and i would like to swap the engine out for something of the same transmission , that is reliable.
ive been told both a chevy lumnia and a chevy s10 will work. just wanting to know if anyone knows of any other easy and cheap swaps to keep it running.

Easy and cheap being the criteria any GM 2.5 front wheel drive not just the two Chevys you mentioned.

Not all 2.5 Pontiacs fit the Fiero bellhousing , only the FWD 2.5's mid 80's and up. The ones with the standard Chevy bolt pattern wont, they (Fieros ) use the metric bolt pattern, aka 60* V6 .

Too bad since the early RWD 2.5's (77- 83) are a better engine.

Look online at www.car-part.com to find a used engine.
