1987 CV axle question

I believe this is the CV axle which is located on the drivers side rear. The part that the boot connects to (where all the grease is kept) is broken basically in half (see picture). I have the new part but can't figure out how to remove this old broken piece. Any information would help. Thanks in advance.

Place pry bar between transaxle case and intermediate shaft CV housing. Pry intermediate shaft from transaxle.

I'm not very savvy with names of parts, but in laymans terms I need to pry this part? I did read something about that last night. Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it.

That hammer idea actually almost what worked..My friend and I had to pry simultaneously a couple of tries and it finally gave in!
