1987 Pontiac Fiero 4CYL Performance?

Hey I have a 1987 Pontiac Fiero 4CYL and all my friends make fun of me because it has kind of a whimpy sound. I want to know tips or things I could buy to increse HP and stuff like that. I have already purchased a K&N air filter
