V6 1988 fiero, over the years the information on the engine timing sticker was lost. It was under the rear deck lid (engine cover) Thank you P. S. the car will not pass the colorado emissions. Tring to do some things to kept it alive.

As stated the ignition timing should be at 10* BTDC.

If failing emissions, What reading is failing?
If the CO or the HC are failing, it could be a dirty O2 sensor or Catalytic converter.
If the readings are just out of spec (just failing) Check timing then try running a can of fuel injector cleaner and some premium gas in it. Take about a 20 minute drive down the highway to clean it out and heat it up just before you take it in for the test. If the readings are real high. I would change the catalytic converter.

If the NoX readings are high, The EGR system is not working properly. Usual suspects are the EGR tube that goes fron the EGR to the intake has a crack in it or the EGR solenoid switch isn't working and turning on the EGR. If one of these are bad, The Fiero Store has replacements: www.fierostore.com

i got a smog tech friend who got his gross polluter honda (NoX was over 3k) to pass in three trys (EGR was working) without buying a cat :D and no it wasnt his shop.. they were legit smogs

He has a Fiero with an OBD I system, Not a Honda.

Beside NoX is not a catalytic converter issue/problem. If the EGR is working then the Honda had a fuel issue (dirty injectors, bad pulses from computer, dirty fuel filter, incorrect fuel pressure, etc.) NoX is caused during lean conditions when head temps get too high. I listed the most common problems a Pontiac Fiero is known to have that causes the certain emission testing conditions to fail. If the OP were to post what the readings are that failed, a much more accurate diagnosis can then be posted.

the honda was obd1, he ran a bunch of seafoam through it, retarded the timing as much as he could, and ran premium gas and fell right under the max :D
