1989 Pontiac firebird

I got a 1989 Firebird V6 Auto and would like to drop a V8 in it. I would love some advice on what would be a good V8 to drop in and some specs on the 700R4?

What is your budget for this project? Do you want a Pontiac engine or a Chevy engine?

I would like to keep it around a couple grand but haven't really set a budget yet just trying to get some ides and see what is manageable. I would like to reuse as many original parts as possible. Really don't care weather it’s a Pontiac engine or a Chevy engine witch ever one is going to be the lest painful.
