I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix w/3.1 that ran good when I parked it but that was a couple of years ago where it has sat in storage since. I recently went to start it and have good fresh fuel in the tank and can only start it temporarily with starting fluid. Then, no fuel to sustain running.

I've checked the fuel pump fuse and switched the fuel pump relay with a neighboring relay of the same specification to no avail.

Anyone else had a similar experience as this who may have any pointers???

TIA

Turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump to turn on for a few seconds to pressurize the lines. If it does, you might want to check the fuse for the injectors which is fuse 8 in the same block that the fuel pump fuse is in. Otherwise, the only way to really check the pump is to supply it with 12 volts directly to see if it runs.

A car that sits for years should not be just started. You have to drain all fluids in the car including the gasoline and refresh them. You should also change the fuel filter and check the air filter to make sure no critters have turned it into their home. Good idea to add some gasoline treament to the fresh tank of gas to dissolve any gas residue.

Isn't there an access cover to the fuel pump somewhere in the trunk ?

good points, if I can rule out any problem with the ECM which will help decide if we're going to invest in this car, we'll get all of that done. Still a little worried there could be some sort of issue with the ECM though that we're trying to rule out.

No hole for pump unless someone else cut one. The tank has to be dropped to get to the pump.
