1993 Trans Sport 3.8L
My tempurature gage is reading off. The needle reads about half way to vertical at full operating temperature. I have changed the thermostat. I grounded out the wire; the gage pins so it is probably fine.
I had this same problem with my 96 Chevrolet K2500 5.7 Vortec; a new Engine Temperature Sending Unit rectified that problem.
I think the this Trans Sport is similar to my K2500 in that it has 2 temperature sending devices.
-One is called a Coolant Temperature Sensor which has 3 wires; it sends info to the ECM (and tranny controls I think) to calculate spark advance etc..
-The other is called an Engine Temperature Sending Unit which has a single conductor; it controls the resistance to ground solely for the sake of the temperature gage on the dash.
Correct me if I wrong.
When shopping online for an Engine Temperature Sending Unit a 3 conductor sensor has come up. I haven't found the single conductor unit yet but am waiting to hear back from a seller on amazon.ca.
The one that might be what I am looking for has a 'blade' and a 'pin' in the connector; the blade is wider than the pin; they are at a 90° angle to each other. There is only one conductor on the plug though.
Anybody have a similar temperature gage story?
