For sometime now the car takes a long cranking time before she will run. Right now she will only run after giving her a shot of starting fluid. If I crank long enough she will almost start but not quite. It has 55k on it, I get spark, has new plugs and filter. Generally I started her about every 3 weeks over the winter (she's sitting in my garage) but she went about 6 or 7 weeks this year, due to an injury I had, and she wouldnt start after that. Any help would be appreciated.

I do hear something starting/setting up when I turn the key. Just a small noise.

Fuel filter been changed recently? There is a square plug with a wire under the hood by the driver's side hood hinge that you can attach a wire to the positive battery terminal to power the fuel pump continuesly to check to see if it's running. There are also 3 relays on the upper passenger side , the one with the purple wire is the fuel pump relay. You can swap one to the other to see if you have a bad pump relay also...

Actually just changed it and the plugs this morning. I swapped the relays around on the passenger side and that changed nothing. Thanks for identifying which one is the fuel relay, I've never actually tried to figure which was which. I'll try the drivers side plug idea you mentioned and see what happens. I figure either way I'll swap out the pump and install a new tank as well soon, they are 28 years old....even with such little mileage. Thanks for your help, I do appreciate you taking the time.

Don't worry, your welcome, I'm retired now, have plenty of time... yeah, my pump died out of the blue one day, when it ran fine the day before, got about 149k out of it, still was the factory one.

If you need help locating the fuel pump test plug, I'll post a pic.....
