Bought the car, 45k stored for six years. Drove well and I did some basic services to give me a start point, transmission filter being one. Car whines in gear but not consistently or not that I noticed. Checked the level and it shows to be over full, odd considering a service center did the filter change. I had added Lucas treatment something I do with a new/old car. Car runs perfectly, shifts normally automatic or manual through the gears. I also own a '92 with 85k and it makes no noise. Anyone?

Seems to make sense as it only made the whine after it was warmed up and on warm days. Service centers can be hit and miss when it comes to doing the job correctly. I bought the additive and told them to put it in along with new fluid. Having found the overfill, I suspect they topped off to factory and dumper the Lucas in after which would overfill.
