I'm looking at a 1994 Pontiac Firebird, V-8, with automatic transmission for Lemons racing. I'm concerned about automatic transmission not being able to run 6-8 hours straight. Are there issues with this transmission under this kind of duress or do I need to find a manual transmission?

have you looked at the Lemons site which would be the best place to find your answer? Transmission temperatures over 200 F cause failures.

Auto transmissions are not compatible with road racing. They build too much heat. Try and find a manual 5 speed?
