I have a red 1996 sunfire gt with 71,3xx on the ticker.:D The car does not see many miles but it is in new york. I just did the break lines and normal stuff the body is clean besides a couple dents. I now am in need of an exhaust. I've looked on amazon, ebay, local parts stores like advance and autozone. I've looked on summit and jegs and other parts websites and cannot find much of anything. Everything I find is for an SE or a 2.2L car.

Is there a difference between the 2.2L cars and 2.4L cars as far as location of the cat? Will a intermediate pipe and muffler for a 2.2L sunfire fit on the 2.4L gt? Are they the same exhaust no matter what motor is in it? The muffler blew open and I do not want to get a ticket , but do not have a big budget.

I do not want a loud exhaust but rather a stock replacement. Does not have to keep the dual outlet exhaust. Just want something cheap due to me not having much money and it's my back and forth to work ride.

Any help in the right direction would be awesome

I would look at the muffler autozone lists for the 2.4 even though it says SE. They give the specifications of the muffler, compare it to what you have now.

Are the pipes still good?

If so ,just go get the right length and pipe diameter turbo muffler or glass pack at the parts store and weld it on and call it done.

Muffler shops will do it too if you ask, with both mufflers above and bend you a new pipe if needed also so it wont cost so much as a new factory like one.;)

The pipes are rotted so I need from the cat back. The car as it sits does not have dual exhaust. When the factory exhaust rotted out my dads mechanic put a single pipe and muffler on the car.

my question is is the intermediate pipe the same for a 2.2l car as a 2.4l car. if its the same pipe ill order that and go with a thrush turbo and fix it on the cheap for now
