noise when key turns? My Grand am has been in the shop many times, The ignition switch is new and the starter is brand new...i got a new wiring harness that goes to the starter. sometimes the car will start up just fine! than i might park it somewhere and it might sit for like an hour, than when i get back to it, i will insert the key and turn the key...the car's electricity is the only thing that turns on. the car wont turn or anything! the only sound it makes is a very low whurrrrrring sound and one or two little clicks...thats all! i have successfully started the car by pushing it a little and trying to start it in neutral, it has started when i do this, but lately it does not. I have been told that maybe the car thinks its still in drive or reverse so it wont start?? i dont know....maybe something to do with the shift gear indicator? please help;) thanks

Any good mechanic can check the neutral safety switch, and adjust or replace it if needed.

Some gear shifts get out of sync--they are made to only start in "Park" and "Neutral", but sometimes they get a little out of adjustment.

Turn the key like you are trying to start it. If it doesn't try, keep the key turned and start jiggling the gearshift lever (parking brake on so you don't roll!) in Park and in Neutral. If it starts, you have found your problem--the Neutral safety Switch.

Best regards,
Mike

you may have a bad NUETRAL SAFETY SWITCH ON THE SHIFTER. iT IS EASY AND CHEAP TO REPLACE.
iT COULD ALSO BE SOMETHING SIMPLE LIKE OLD BATTERY CABLES THAT WONT LET ANYTHING THRU.
