1997 Pontiac Grand Am GT Sedan Transmission?

i have a grand am, but the tranny is gone. (4 dr sedan, auto tranny, white model with 5 band equalizer on stereo, not that the last few parts are important, tho they might be)

i'm pretty sure it needs a 4-speed automatic transmission, but i didnt know if id need exact specs of it?

any and all help is Very greatly appreciated

the one thing i left out of my original post is that the transmission isnt in the car, so i need a replacement and was hoping to know what kind and specs for it without having to take it to autozone or something.

take it to a transmission shop they dont charge to look at it

its a 4 speed auto with overdrive. they use them in both grand ams and cavaliers, just call a parts shop and they should be able to help you out. i cant remember the code on it, it could be the 4060E, but don't quote me on that, just have a look around the internet and you should be able to figure it out (google that trans code).
