Which may all be related. About the same week it snowed 6-8 inches I moved to a house on a hill. My problem started with the car shutting off while driving down the highway. First I would lose all acceleration (and not notice a problem just yet), then the steering wheel locks up (huh???), then the brakes would stop responding (this is the part where I finally take notice), and I have to turn the ignition off, then back on again. It only happened a couple of times, but very disturbing.

Then while shopping or what not, I would start the car, it would turn over then completely lose all power. I'd jiggle around the battery cables, then it'd fire right up again.

Yesterday I tried to make it up a snowy hill and suddenly I realized I had no horsepower at all, it just sputtered, and halfway up it lost all power. Shut it off, restarted it - now it's moving again but the dashboard lights are completely dark, fuel gauge jumps to "Full" (even though its not).

This happened again today. And now I notice even very small hills increases in terrain cause serious slow down. My wife mentioned she smelled something from the engine, I think rubber..

Is it time to catch this car on fire and roll it down a hill? I'm not a mechanic and this car is worth less than $800 even before this crap started.

It sounds like a loose connection. Check all the connections on the battery and the starter.

Is your fuse box near the door?
This sounds like snow could be in
the fuse box, due to the randomness
{ and suddenness} of problems...
