Ok so as the title says I have this 1997 sunfire. When I stop it will drop down to approx 800 rpm. (im guessing as it isnt digital but just under the 1000) Sometimes I will stop and it will drop down to say 5 or 600. Sometimes it will stall. I replaced the TPS and IAC today and it seems better but still wants to die. And yes, I reset the computer. It has new delco plugs and I have listened to the injectors with a screwdriver by putting the tip down on them and listening. They all seem to have the same rhythm. Fairly new fuel pump. Is there an egr or something that could be causing this? I also checked the check vave going to the power brake booster. All the vacuum lines. Still can't quite figure it out. Other than that it runs beautifully

Ok I think I got it. I will post the solution so others can fix theirs. I know it may seem unbelievable. Here it is. When I first got this car the exhaust had broken at the flex pipe under the motor. When it fell off it hit the road and bounced into the gas tank and there was a rusty part and it broke though. I replaced the tank pump lines straps. Everything underneath. Being the outlaw that I am I chose to drive it with the straight pipe until i got my first warning. I wasn't going to invest in a cat so the cat and o2 sensor remained off the car. I eventually got pulled over and got my warning. I ordered the muffler and got it put on. Afterwards sometime I started having these dying issues and a loss of performance. I would accelerate and it would not respond. I located a rusty ground at the battery tray and moved it and got rid of the acceleration issues. I still had the dying problem. Replaced the IAC and TPS to no avail. I found another forum where a guy was having basically my same problem. His he seemed to smell unburned gasoline. I never noticed that with mine. He also had the cat and that back o2 sensor off of his car. He said he finally unplugged the front o2 sensor and voila the problem went away. As much as I thought this sounded crazy I decided to try it with mine. Low and behold the car started running perfect with it unhooked. I thought no way and plugged it back in. The problem returned. I am at a loss as to why this worked. I am also stumped as to why it ran fine with the straight pipe and started acting up after i installed the muffler. It runs great now. The idle never waivers or acts like it is going to die. Always stays around the 800 rpm

glad you got it straightened out but I don't recall you ever posting the exact code you were getting, only stated the O2 sensors.

I never get any other code. I only replaced the IAC and TPS cause new ones were 5 bucks each on ebay. All I have ever got was o2 sensor codes. I even got a scanner and drove around with it hooked up. Like I say the cat is gone and has been since I owned it. The first o2 sensor was always hooked up. After I put on the muffler it started. Not immediately but within a couple weeks. I can't figure it. This is where I got the info at and they can't even figure why it worked. Although I never smelled gas like this guy did. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=11&t=161448&a=2
