1998 Pontiac Grand Am No Start - 2.4 Liter ?

A relative has a 98' Grand where the temperature guage moved to the red zone. They pulled over and turned the car off. starteded it back up later and cut it off...
when tried to start again the car would not catch, held down the gas pedal and tried to start but car still would not start.

after several try's....the engine seems to have started spinning freely. I don't know what it could be...any suggestions?

are you saying the engine is running now "spinning freely" without any problems or it still wont start?

If the throttle is wide open during cranking, it cuts off the fuel to the motor. This is for clearing a flooded motor.
