Hello, I have a pontiac sunfire and its missing the 2nd o2 sensor after a new exhaust was put on. I have a check engine light on and the code is for heated o2 sensor bank 1. I was told not to bother replacing it since I don't have the second one. Is this good advice or should I change it. My car runs rough and will die sometimes just until it warms up. Thanks

The rough running has nothing to due with the sensor. Problem is unless you constantly check with a scanner you will never know if a new code has popped up since you are missing the sensor.

As oxygen sensor plays a significant role in regulating the air/fuel mixture, engine timing and intervals between engine combustion, there is no doubt that a vehicle with a bad oxygen sensor will run roughly and/or irregularly. Rough engine idle is mostly caused in vehicles that are installed with a defective oxygen sensor.

That pertains to the number 1 sensor not the number 2. Read below concerning defective number 2 sensor particularly no noticeable symptoms.

damned that was good mel. but wouldnt be easy to just braze in a new bung hole at put it back the way it was?................if it aint broke why break it?

If you would have read my original post. It was about the FIRST O2 sensor and if I should change it. I didn't need any of the other information.

Yes change it if that is what the code indicates. As the other post suggested, weld a fitting onto the pipe so you can hook up the missing sensor.
