1999 grand am my speedo does not work. Put a new sensor in still dosen't work. dtc reads po56? on my snap on computer, low voltage to sensor. car has been sitting for 10 years. only has 31k miles, tack and the rest of gages work fine.

If you mean P0056, that is related to a bad oxygen sensor and has nothing to do with the speedometer. Look at the link below, is that the sensor you replaced?

my speedodometer did work when I got my 1996 grand am. I took it apart the two gears were apart.The plastic was cracked.Used bread tie still working.knock on wood
