had a new engine put in my grand am about a month ago... prior to the engine being put in.. the power steering pump was fine.. never leaked!.. but once this engine was put in.. about 2 weeks after the power steering pump started leaking, i knew bcuz of the puddle and the level was on add... but i noticed one of the lines was really loose.. so i tightend it and it seemed to be fine for like 3 days.. i checked it yesterday.. and the level is on add, and it seems to be going onto the belt.. and the belt squirts the fluid everwhere.... is it a bad pump?? the seals or sumthing gone bad?? i dunno... and then.... right when it hit 1,500 miles the oil level was on add so i channged the oil bcuz the mechanic told me to change it after 1500... and now 16 days later its not on add.. but there are four little holes on the dip stick untuil it reaches full and one of those little holes is not filled with oil... should the engine be burning oil this fast?? and another thing is when i start it and it smells kindof bad... it didnt smell like this before.... someone please give me sum insight...... i have brand new ac delco spark plugs and wires... a couple monthes ago i replaced the fuel filter... i change my oil at 1500 miles... i changed the power steering fluid a couple times.... i no longer have dex-cool coolant running threw the engine.. i changed the coolant hoses 2 monthes ago... so i take car of this car... someone help me out

not being mean but next time go Toyota. You will save yourself a lifetime of misery.

The add mark on the dipstick is at the bottom of the holes. It has used a 1/4 of a quart in 16 days. depending on the miles driven, this might be normal for a new motor.

The oil leaving might be a normal matter in a new motor. I'd worry more about the power steering pump/fluid. I don't recall if the pump is bolted to the motor case or not, but if they botched the reinstall when they put in your new motor that could be one reason for it leaking. I'd say take it back and have them fix it... I'd hope there was some kind of warranty on the work they did when they put in the new engine!

The smell you are detecting is probably the steering fluid burning. This can be an issue -- that stuff is flamible under the right (wrong?) circumstances. You don't want to burn up everything forward of the firewall, now do you? Get it fixed soon, whatever you do...
