suggestions? I bought a 99 trans am that it's modified. I just noticed an annoying whine coming from the rear end at around 60-80mph. It's only when you accelerate at those speeds. If you let go of the accelerator you won't hear anything and once you get back on the gas you'll hear it again. What could it be? Will replacing the fluid help?

sounds like you have bearing noise in differential maybe the pinon & ring gear. needs to be rebuilt, fluid change won't help

When this happends its usally the cheap gear like motive it does that like your wheels are rubbing.

The problem is the rearends are weak in these models and won't withstand mods and more HP for long .. you should look into replacing the rearend with a 9" ford or 12 bolt (bolt in rear) that will cure the issue with Noise as the gears are much stronger than stock ...
even if you rebuild it with new parts the stock rears will only wear quickly again and fail ..

Agreed. Automatics hold up better but the stick cars destroy the poor little old 7.5 10 bolt rather quick. I went with a 12 bolt and they will still make some whine after a few hard launches at the track. I'll be doing a soild spacer next time it's apart.

If I had to replace the rear again it would be the new Moser Dana s60.
