2.4 running rough

what is the sensor right above the oil filter? It is small and had a 2 wire connector going to it.

I found out the sensor right above the oil filter is the crankshaft position sensor. I got a new one and installed it, but can't try it until morning

There is a sensor that plugs in on the back side way over by the passenger side near where the axle connects on that side. It has 2 wires going to it (purple and either white or yellow)

Then there is another sensor closer to the driver's side with only one black wire going to it. It is also between the motor and firewall. Is one of those the speed sensor? If not what are they?:)

where the oil level sensor is you go back behind and down the engine under the exhaust manifold it's about 2 inches away from the oil dipstick

I would still smell the exhaust..the speed sensor is right next to the passenger side halfshaft, right where the the shaft conects on the tranny under the thermostat..and the knocke sensor is on the back of the engine right under the exhaust manifold on the
side where the o2 sensor is..it only has 1 wire and it's pretty big for a sensor

Oops I missed this post. I see the knock sensor (one wire) and i think the other one I am looking at is the speed sensor. Is there a way to test these? One is $25 and the other is $15. Not too bad, but I don't want to waste money if I don' t have to.

The exhaust smells rich for sure and it sounds "chuggy" it will blow out some black soot if I rev it to the limiter.

could a speed sensor cause it to idle bad too? I would think that it wouldn't affect it until the car is moving, but I could be wrong. Thanks.

and you most likey have a ignition problem..you may get spark, but if the timing is off or not getting enough juice then you get a rich mixture...the knock sensor from what i know and read is that there is no realistic way to check these since you only get a signal when your motor "knocks"..you could take the car in and then with a diaignostic computer and it will tell you by reading the signals if it's bad..

The vss should have nothing to do with your problem. It just measures the vehicle speed.

It does alot more then just that...since he has no code and the problems he has can be caused by so many different reasons, he might aswell check it just to be safe..

I am getting a code... P0300. Random Cylinder Misfire. I had the car scanned and that is the code that comes up. I brought it to autozone to have it scanned. Then I brought it to a local shop to have it scanned, and they said it showed TPS. I replaced that with no change at all, so I returned the TPS and put the old one back on. Originally I was following this for troubleshooting, which is why I didn' think to check knock or speed sensor:

oops.. I could have sworn you said it went away...but no difference...did you test the wire to the tps? alot of the time a scanner will just get you to were you need to go...so if you get,in your case.. a p0300 it does'nt mean it the sensor it could be the wires to the sensor...from end to end check all the wires to the tps they should be 0 ohms..if even a small amount of resistance is seen..you need to replace the wire pins and all

it could also be the wires to injector or the injectors...you never answered back last time...did you move the wires to the injectors to see if the engine make any changes in operation..

I did not move the wires to the injectors, but I did remove all the injectors so they were all unplugged, terminals cleaned and plugged back in.

I will check wires once I get the gas tank put back in:eek:

I had a minor setback while replacing the fuel filter. I need to get a new hose assembly.

I had to drop the tank to replace the one fuel line. They make a kit that worked really well. The tank and filter are all back in place, but the car still runs the same:mad:

I am going to pull the O2 sensors next to take a look at them. Have not had much time to work on this thing latley

Well when you get time write back we will start from scratch to get this taken care of i did some research and found some ways to really get your problems fixed

I am curious what you found. I will have some time tomorrow to look at it. Where should I start? Like I said I have a used PCM from the boneyard, but its $150 just to have the dealer flash it. I am not convinced that is my problem yet. Thanks for all the help!
