My daughters 1999 olds Alero (very similar to Grand Am) has this A/C issue. Compressor kicks on. The small metal tube going into the passenger fire wall gets cold , but, the larger one stays warm. The air coming from the vents is warm. As an aside, I checked the +12VDC (in the fuse box) going to the compressor. It seems fine, but, when I rev the engine it drops off to 0. Kind of like an over sensitive Wide Open Throttle (WOT) relay thing. I/m a handy guy, but not so much on A/C. Any ideas?

Sounds like it needs a recharge. The computer will stop the compressor at wot.
Thanks for the advice. I may try that tomorrow. I only brought up the wot issue because it turns off the compressor when I step on the throttle when it's parked. I thought the WOT shutdown only occurred under load (up a hill or passing) when the vacuum drops. Maybe i have a vacuum leak? If so where would I tap into the engine to check?
