2.5" or 3.0" exhaust

I am going to buy a flowmaster or magnaflow exhaust pretty soon and I am stuck on the diameter I should go with. Right now I have a 350 ci engine with a 4 barrel carb. I believe there is a mild cam as well but don't know the specks. Eventually I am going to swap the engine with a 400 or 455. I have scoured the Internet and from what I can tell a 3" dual exhaust would be ok for a 400 and probably better for the 455. I know that 3" is to big for the 350 I have now. Any comments or wisdom would be much appreciated. P.S. I do want the car to be loud!!!

Unless you are going for a 455 in the 500 HP range stick with the 2.5". THe 3" is a pain to install without having it hit something and unless you are in a high HP range it can be detrimental to power output.
