Got this car free from an elderly neighbor who was going to send to the junkyard last summer Aug 2020. 1 owner, 73,000 original, strong motor, smooth gearshifts. Love this car. I've rescuscitated it back to the land of the living. Suspension was rotting, new shocks/control arms front and rear. New brakes and lines, fuel pump and new factory lines set. THE WORKS, Lol. I've Essentially rebuilt a Brand new car @ everything below the wheel wells. Even a new steering rack and front subframe. Simple and Easy to work on. Now focus is shifting to the engine with a complete ignition system, and and fuel injection replacement in the rear view mirror, car now runs, and drives like a dream.
The Questions I now have are about engine coolant. What is the normal operating temperature of one of these cars? It goes up to 200 on dash gauge and stays there. That's really a bit high for my liking. I Plant to install both tranny fluid, and oil intercoolers in an attempt to bring that temp down some.
Second Question... When the hell are the radiator fans supposed to cut-on for this thing?? LOL!
Third... If I do a complete coolant flush/back flush, will I run into any vapor lock problems upon introducing new coolant to the system? and if so... How would I burp the system, there's no direct radiator cap, and see no burping plugs anywhere on this weird ass engine.
With the water pump on the (REAR?) of the engine, situated within less than 2 INCHES from a nuclear Exhaust manifold??
Way to go GM. No wonder these engines top ends exploded their head gaskets left and right in the 80's
I Hope these answers exist somewhere. I've already read alot of of these posts in the past few months. Blower motor resistor fixes, and the Passlock bypasses have been implemented as sucessful. Ty much.
