My gf's 2000 Montana has the dreaded harmonic balancer fail, The belt keeps slipping off and everything.

I'm looking into replacing it... but I keep hearing people talking about using an installer, otherwise you will fubur up the new balancer and possibly the cam shaft.

Then I read somewhere I would have to take it to a dealer to have it "re programed" Something about changing the balancer will mess up something with a sensor and timing, etc.

Can anyone clear this up please?

Hopefully you didnt intend to hammer the new balancer onto the crankshaft. You can try a long threaded bolt and a washer and nut to draw the balancer onto the crank.

No..GOD NO. I will never hammer anything like that on. I will just get the installer...
