2000 Sunfire clunking sound when braking

My sons 2000 sunfire is making a loud clunk when applying the brakes.
It only seems to do this if the car has been sitting for a while. I drove it around the neighborhood twice after he told me about it and nothing seemed wrong. So I took it out first thing this morning and it happened maybe 3 times.
It feels like it is coming from the whole front end, not just one wheel.

motor mounts, worn suspension bushing, struts are some of the possibilities

Anything else it could be?
My 2005 Sunfire has been making a click/clunking noise when applying the brakes. But only when low pressure is applied, and at low speeds. More so when in heavy traffic.

have you pulled the wheels and checked the brakes?
