I'm new here, but I've been reading around on different threads and clearly for some of you this isn't your first rodeo. My '01 GA had an overheating problem when I got it, but I soon found out the previous owner had blown head gasket before I bought it. It also had 130,000+ miles on it. Had the motors swapped for another 3.4, which had a little over 90,000 on it. Ran great for a couple days. Left my school's football game one night, drove around town, pulled into the driveway and it started knocking. The whole car was shaking. Ran a scanner on it and it popped up a code(don't remember what it was), but it told me that the 5th piston was misfiring. So, I replaced my spark plugs and the ignition wires. After that, I started her up and it was still making that noise. Couple people told me it could be my injectors? Whenever I start it up and let it idle for a couple minutes, she sounds fine except the knocking noise. No high idles at first. After about 10 minutes, the idle will start to fluctuate. All the lights on the inside start flickering, and so do my exterior lights. It starts to smoke a little after about 10 minutes also, and there's a strong smell of gas when I open the hood. Can anyone help?

Also, I apologize for the long explanation.

What starts to smoke, the exhaust or the engine? Did you check for a gas leak in the engine compartment? Do you have a check engine light on? Using an insulated plier, if you pull the wire off the #5 plug does the knock stop?

My friend pointed out that the smoke was oil burning, and it comes out of engine and the exhaust. I haven't checked for any leaks, so I'll have to do that when I get a chance. I do have a check engine light on. It has been on since I first got the car and hasn't gone off since. And I haven't tried doing that yet
I'll do that later today and post what happened.

Does the new motor have a warranty?

I don't think so. It was put in by the dealer that I got it from and I don't remember them telling me anything about a warranty with the new engine.

Would think they have to give you a 30 day warranty. What code do you currently have?

Just ran the code scanner on it. When I started it it almost died. The RPMs shot up and then dropped real low and it was bucking up, so to speak. Then the RPMs got up to about 1300 and stayed there. Then again, it is cold. Code scanner gave me these three codes in this order: P0305, P0135, P0305.
