I am working on a 2001 Montana with a 3.4. It came to me with a no start issue. I have no crank signal on the purple wire at the starter. i can supply power to the purple wire at the starter relay and it cranks. i have constant power on the red wire of the starter relay, i have power on the orange and black wire with key on and in park or neutral. the yellow and black wire has nothing with the relay removed, i am not getting my ground signal from the computer. i have power on the purple wire in pin position 23 at the computer with the key in the crank position. with the key in the crank position the yellow and black wire still has nothing on it with the starter relay removed. i have tried swapping the computer out for another computer from a 2001 Montana with a 3.4 and still does the same thing. does anybody know where the computer gets the ground for the purple wire? does it act as a relay in the computer to supply ground to the yellow and black wire?

Passlock

Will the passlock disable the computer to keep the motor from cranking?

There is a procedure in the owners manual to reset the passlock. I edited my answer cause I can't remember but check the manual there is a section that talks about passlock and how to reset or relearn it. If u do a search for a manual on this forum u will find a pdf version.

parts interchange

i have another montana of the same year, can i interchange the BCM or passkey 3 module from around the ignition cylinder? if i swap the passkey 3 module i know i have to do the key relearn procedure. i have pulled the B codes and they are as follows:
B1216-EBCM command pressure release is too long
B1223-Left rear wheel speed sensor input signal is 0
B1227-Left rear excessive wheel speed sensor variation
B1234-Left rear wheel speed sensor circuit open or short
B1276-Delivered torque signal malfunction
B1298-PCM class 2 serial data link malfunction

this U code was history code only in the airbag list
U1040-Loss of EBCM/EBTCM communications

i cleared the codes and turned the key on and off a few times and the only to return is the U code still only as a history code. The B codes seem to be all ABS related except the B-1298, could i be having EBCM problems, or is it just a Passkey 3 issue?

I forgot to mention that i have powered up the purple wire on the starter and started the van with the key on and the van starts and dies after running maybe a second. there is no "security" light that comes on, i have looked when i first turn the key on and also after i have tried to start it by powering up the starter purple wire. the only light that comes on is a theft light on the radio, it blinks once about every 2 or 3 seconds, i have tried the 30 minute relearn procudure twice no with no success. even after i do the relearn the van will not crank, i have replaced the ignition cylinder because it needed to be replaced, the key would only work one way and it had to be wiggled around to get it to turn, now with the new cylinder it works with the key facing both directions and turns easily. i have done the relearn for the new keys still with no success.

found the "security" light

i feel like an idiot, i was looking for the "security" light on the right side of the I/P, each time i looked at the info screen on the left side of the I/P i was seeing "door ajar", "change oil soon" and the "battery" picture. I am trying the relearn procedure again. i will keep anybody who is looking at this thread informed as to what happens.

Got it running

I had to go through the relearn procedure again and it finally accepted it and it starts and runs fine. i still wonder if there might be an issue with the passkey 3 sensor around the ignition cylinder.

Glad to see that u have got it fixed, depending on the type of pass key you have , their is a little resistor built into the key on the metal part , that makes contact with a set of female contacts in the key cylinder sometimes the resistor and or female contacts get dirty and don't make good contact and will lead to problems.
