2001 Pontiac Aztek: damaged ignition lock cylinder

My wife is wanting to buy a 2001 Aztek off her brother. Apparently someone tried to start it with a screwdriver. The car is anti theft security locked out ( can't turn key in ignition, turn steering wheel, or change gear out of park) The owner says after we change ignition cylinder it'll work.

So I went to replace it on my own. I got the covers off and have access to the ignition. My problem is that I can't get the damaged ignition cylinder out ( the process involves sticking a tool into hole on top and turning the key to the start position and pulling the ignition out) I can't turn the key due to security.

I've read about drilling a hole into the ignition to pretty much "finish the burglars job" and should be able to remove. Just wanted someones 2 cents on the whole situation

Mechanics say they can replace ignition but I'll probably have to take to dealer to get past security anti theft anyway

did you try speaking to an automotive lock smith who can do the whole job without going to a dealer?

Thank you very much, 300$ for whole job, but i paid 100$ just to remove lock cylinder for me. He also Jimmy rig repaired the damaged one.

Ok so, with the same lock cylinder in. The battery is dead. Upon trying to jump, no start
Security is on.
To reset the security. Turn the key to on for 10 minutes, until security light disappears from dash.
Turn off for 5 seconds
Turn back to on for 10 minutes, security light disappeared.
Repeat one once more
Equaling 30 minutes

Tried to start, car won't turn over. Tries every 2 seconds
We tried a good few times it would try slightly harder each time.

Tried installing the new lock cylinder i bought, can't get it in all the way for some reason.

Security light used to be on immediately on entry. Did security reset.
Now it only appears after we turn to start.
Car has been on jumper cables thru whole process. Testing battery tomorrow

sounds like the battery is toast but needs to be fully charged and load tested
