2001 Pontiac grand am se1- High idle speed, (code p0507)?

I have a Pontiac grand am 2001 which will not pass an inspection.. It keeps getting the code p0507- high idle speed. But my car is running fine at around 850 rpm and not higher.

I have taken it to many different mechanics but no one can give a definite answer (or the same answer). I have reset the computer and changed the idle control valve, but still the code returns.

I have been told that it could be a problem with the computer- as the idle speed appears fine, and there has been no related problem found... just the p0507 code...

Any ideas as to what could be the cause- or is anyone in the same situation??

Thanks, i would appreciate any help...

It should be around 650-700 RPM max out of gear if it's higher you could have a vacuum leak, a stuck throttle body plate misaligned TPS sensor leaking injector ..
or many other things ..
you need to get it to a mechanic that understands daignosis on these engines
has anyone tried to adjust the idle stop manualy to lower the Idle?
or checked the cruise control cable to make sure it's not binding ?

2001 Pontiac grand am se1, 2.4 -- engine code trouble....?

Hi everyone,

Recently i failed my inspection because my car reads engine code p0507- high idle speed.
But my check engine light has never come on, (the bulb is working), also my idle is fine.

What could be causing this code and shouldn't the engine light have come on if there is a problem/ code?

My sister-in-laws 01 2.4 had a cracked throttle body, allowing more air in and a high idle. I don't remember if it set the light or not.
