Hi All,

I have a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 , my question is why is my Car hard to start, My Starter went on my car about a week ago, i purchased a second hand starter as i didn't have the money to buy a brand new one. Anyways, my car does start but at times it is very hard to start and a few times i heard a little backfire pop and then the car is flooded. The starter Turns over great when the car is hot, however, it seems when the car is turned off for an hour or 2 thats when it gets cranky to start.

I was wondering would it be that the second hand starter i purchased is bad. would it be my spark plugs as they are original my Neigbour owned the car since it was new and he said he never changed the plugs or plug wires because it never gave him a reason to change them. My car has 153000km or 91000 miles, my car is tad bit hard on gas too

I hope someone can give me there opinion on this issue?

Thanks so much..

When starting the car, if it grinds or makes a metal on metal sound you don't have the correct shims in place and you will chew up your flywheel by continuing to start the engine without them.

At that millage the car should have had a full tune up done, plugs, wires cap & rotor, O2 sensor.

never buy crap from junk yards, you will generally pay almost the same price for a new lifetime warranty part from Advance Auto or Autozone and not worry about it breaking a week later and having to do the job all over again.
