There is a light on the bottom hand side of my dashboard panel that says "Check" and has a little wrench under it. When I start the car and put it into gear the lights will automatically come on, well when they come on this light flashes alternating with another light in the upper right corner that looks like a headlight and makes a clicking noise while it alternates. If I turn my lights on while I am driving and then put the car in park and turn off the lights they will also start to flash with those other two dashboard lights and the clicking is there too. Is this a sign of the alternator going bad or is it something electrical...? I have no idea what it could be.

Hey!

Judging by the amount of views vs. replies there is not many people that know the answer!

I have exactly the same thing going on on my gf's 04 Sunfire that I declared to fix after 4 mechanics told here there's nothing to do, since it must be electrical problem.

A weird thing I noticed though is that when i put the lights in the ON position before I even put the key into the ignition and then start the car the SERVICE light won't come on - it only happens when I start the car, put it in DRIVE and then as long as the lights are in the off position the clicking and the SERVICE lights come on!!!

I will try unplugging the battery to "reset" the computer, but I doubt it will help!

Let me know if you find a solution!!!

Best regards,

Matt

Service/wrench light

I have the same thing, my mechanic said it has to do with a light not working properly somewhere on the car. My passenger high beam does not work. This causes my daytime driving lights to not come on. When your dash warning light flickers your daytime running lights flicker as well. Check and see if all of your lights work correctly and you will most likely find the problem.

Hope this helps.

after 6 years, I doubt it!

I have the same issue with my '02, know what it is and how to fix it! I just bought mine 3 days ago and the red wrench light comes on and I hear the clicking noise. I also noticed the "head lights on" symbol flash when it clicks.
I opened the fuse panel and the DRL Relay was what was clicking. Cheap part, less than $15 and the light goes away and you have daytime head lights w/o turning them on manually.
MY PROBLEM!!!!..............I cannot get that relay out of the fuse box. Is there a keeper that locks it in lace? I have a good used one in my parts car, a '02 Cavalier w/ 2.2. (same part #)
ANYONE know how to get that relay out? Thanks....

if there was a clip it would be pretty obvious, any signs of the relay melting?

Actually it's not obvious, and hard for me to see it. It's in the corner of the fuse box, up against the closest wall of the fuse box towards the steering wheel. Very hard for me to see, as I am Disabled and cannot "contort" into right position. (being on the side of the dash between the door and dash) Can't feel anything either, as my fingers are to big to get to the base of it. Wiggles freely like the one in my parts car, that was my daily driver until I bought this one. Has to be a clip or retainer of some type, just hoping that someone had replaced one before.
Got a steal of a deal on the car, as he thought the clicking and light was something serious with the motor. ;) Loaded with electric sunroof and only 1 small flaw in the side of the back seat about 1/4" big. Premium sound, ETS, 4 spd auto, 3rd owner and 144,00. Got it for less than $1800, needs nothing now that I figured the relay out.(just need to replace it)

Daytime running light relay. they fail often I carry an extra in the glove box. there is nothing holding it in place, just pull harder than you think.
