I have a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire , 2.2 L. The other day, I hit a pothole, and the next day my car overheated. I turned it off when the 'check gauges' light came on. My dad is a mechanic and he had it toed to the house and when looking under there, he noticed there was a hole in the hose that hooks up to the thermostat. So he replaced it. When we turned it on it still overheated. He was able to determine that the thermostat was not opening, so we bought a new one and replaced that. Finally hot air was coming out of my vents when I turned the heater on, but my car is STILL overheating! There are no more leaks. The fan does work and turns on when the temperature gets up there. No white smoke is coming out of the exhaust or anything, but if my dad leaves the cap off of the overflow tank white smoke comes out of there. He let the air pressure out by a little cap on one of the pipes but it didn't fix anything. We don't think it is anything major like a blown head gasket because everything seems to be running/sounding like its working okay, besides the fact that it keeps overheating. Anyone know what could be wrong?
The radiator is not getting warm my dad says, like its supposed to.
