I was driving my 2002 grand am last night and it just died on the road. I'm pretty technical so today i got to towed home and started to look at it.

fuel pressure is zero at the fuel rail port.

i don't hear the fuel pump.

no codes are set.

dash "security" light (along with a few other) is on solid when ignition key is on. the red led near the radio is off.

I switched out fuel pump fuse/relay with horn relay (same part#) and no change.

Is there a way to make sure the fuel pump is shot? or a way to confirm it before I tear the tank out?

you can try finding the harness going to the pump and applying power directly

Have you done the basic and make sure you have voltage on both sides of the relay (fuel pump power side and ignition switch power side). Abnormally low voltage on the ignition side would indicate faulty ignition switch (quite a bit cheaper than a pump).
If you have an ohmmeter you can check for continuity to ground through the pump from the relay contact.

I'll do some voltmeter testing tomorrow and get back. I did find that the dash "security" light does not stay on or blink as I originally posted. I had thought it did, but it goes out right after the crank when the key goes to ON. So I think the Passlock system is functioning correctly. Thanks for the start.

Well i tried to put 12v on the pump after unplugging it from the chassis. I connected it to the purple and black wire and nothing happened so I assume the pump is shot. Removed the tank this afternoon and going to order a new pump. Any recommendations as far as quantity brand? I see about 5 different ones for sale from $72-$120

go for a brand name even if it's a few bucks more you dont want to have to do this a second time

I agree. I looked at several of the reviews and felt it was not worth it for $80 to get a no name. Ended up tonight ordering a genuine Airtex E3507M for $121.92 with free shipping. This is the main pump sold at all the stores for over $230. I report back next week after installation. TY for the guidence.

Fuel Pressure lost

It was the pump right? Mine did that to me, except sometimes if you waited a few days it would run for a few days then stall out again. That is what confused me. I took off the corrigated duct for the air filter and sprayed a little starting fluid in the port and it started for about 2 seconds. That was enough to convince me it was the pump, and it was. Mine is a 02 V6 and the same thing happened to my Alero. Let us know how it turned out.
