I have a 2002 sunfire and the AC has been out forever, my dad determined the clutch needs to be replaced, but how hard of a job is that? My neighbor is a GM parts dealer so I can get the part for cheap but if its a super hard job I don't know that its worth it.

How did he determine the clutch is bad?

Not really sure. We had taken it to Firestone or Merlins, and they said we needed to replace the whole thing and it would be $2k or something like that, I guess he just researched the problem.

A new clutch from NAPA is about $165, a rebuilt compressor with clutch is about $350, and a new compressor with clutch is about $500. Even with labor you are not close to 2K. Dont know what your skill level is but you probably should have it done at a private shop.
